Alleged assassination conspirator's remand appeal dismissed
Ibrahim Haneef, a deputy to the Education Minister, was arrested on April 4th
The Criminal Court had remanded him by 10 days
Both Haneef and Judge Usman are native to the same island

The High Court has dismissed Ibrahim Haneef’s appeal of his remand sentence on allegations of attempting to assassinate Judge Shujau Usman.

Ibrahim Haneef, a deputy to the Education Minister, was arrested on April 4th for conspiring to assassinate the High Court judge hours after officers summoned him to the police station and confiscated his phone. He was removed from his position on the 11th of April.

The Criminal Court had remanded him by 10 days. The High Court ruled that due to the nature of the allegations against Haneef, and due to the evidence already acquired against him, his release from remand would be dangerous.

The prosecutors reportedly have an audio recording and a testimony from a government official as evidence against Haneef.

Both Haneef and Judge Usman are native to the same island, Villingili in Gaafu Alifu atoll.
