The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought criminal charges against former Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Bagir, from the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO).

An official at PGO has confirmed the matter to RaajjeMV, after ACC concluded investigations of accusations against the former minister.

PGO is expected to reach a decision on pressing charges against Bagir within the next few days.

While the anti-corruption watchdog has concluded investigations of accusations against Bagir, the ministry’s audit report highlights that thousands were retracted as wages for an individual not employed at the ministry, during the previous administration.

The audit report further notes discrepancies in allocating monthly salaries of some employees, as such, some employees received undue benefits and excess amounts in wages during the former administration.

The anti-corruption watchdog has revealed that they will reveal further details regarding charges against the accused, at a later date.

Bagir was appointed Islamic Minister during now incarcerated former president Abdulla Yameen’s regime in 2015 following the resignation of his predecessor Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
