President appoints two Supreme Court Justices
, Criminal Court Judge Ali Rasheed Hussain and Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim received parliamentary approval on Sunday
Their names were forwarded for Majlis consideration on August 19
Their oath was administered by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ahmed Muthasim Adnan

Ali Rasheed Hussain and Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim have been appointed as justices of the Supreme Court.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented the new appointees with their letters of appointment during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Tuesday.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ahmed Muthasim Adnan administered their oath of office.

The president’s nominees to the Supreme Court bench received approval from the People’s Majlis on Sunday, after having sent the names for consideration on August 19.

The Supreme Court bench currently consists of Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan as well as Justices Dr. Azmiralda Zahir, Dr. Aisha Shujoon Mohamed, Husnu Al Suood and Mahaz Ali Zahir.

Justice Rasheed previously served as a judge at the Drug Court and as the Chief Judge at the Civil Court and holds a Bachelor's of Shari'ah and Law from Al-Azhar University, Egypt.

He most recently served as a judge at the Criminal Court.

A council member at the Islamic University and a member of the Shari'ah Committee of Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), Dr. Ibrahim served as a partner of Premier Chambers, prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court bench.

He completed his Doctorate in Islamic Commercial Law from the University of Malaya, in Malaysia.
