Parliament’s human rights and gender committee has approved three out of the eight names forwarded for the vacant positions at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The committee reached the decision after interviewing the eight names forwarded by the president.
The three approved by the committee are Aminath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq, Moomina Waheed and Ahmed Adham Abdulla.
The committee said that they have the capability to fulfill responsibilities at the commission, after reviewing their educational background and experience.
The President’s Office opened the application for four membership posts at HRCM on July 6, following the resignation of three members as well as the expiration of one’s term on September 12.
The three members -Aminath Enas, Aishath Afreen Mohamed, and Moosa Ali Kaleyfaanu- resigned in July amid impeachment motions at the Peope’s Majlis.
Vice President Mohamed Zahid was removed from position through a parliamentary vote, in late July.
The Human Rights Commission Act states that HRCM must comprise of five members.
