Cargo ferry services between Maldives and India is to be launched next month.
While an announcement regarding the direct ‘Cargo Ferry Service’ connecting the two nations was made last week, the High Commission of India in Maldives has since announced that the service will begin during the third week of September.
As such, a vessel, operated by Shipping Corp. of India, is to launch the cargo ferry service.
The operation of ferry services is expected to further strengthen trade, especially in the north.
Discussions to begin operating cargo ferries between Maldives and India were held during former President Mohamed Nasheed's presidency as well.
Maldives and India will celebrate 55 years since the establishment of formal diplomatic ties on November 1.
