170 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Tuesday

There are active cases in 18 outlying islands

Maldives Covid-19 tally has surpassed 6,000.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed via its nightly publication on Tuesday that the country’s Covid-19 case count has risen to 6,079 with the 170 new infections discovered by 6pm.

The new cases include 139 Maldivians, 23 Bangladeshi nationals, seven Indian nationals and one national from South Africa.

While one out of the total was reported from an outlying island, the coronavirus has surfaced in a total of 18 outlying islands thus far.

Further, Maldives reported 160 recoveries from the virus on Tuesday, pushing the total of recovered patients to 3,648.

Covid-19 has taken 24 lives in the Maldives thus far, and the island nation currently has 2,407 active cases.

Most of the victims to Covid-19 have been Maldivians, 18 and six foreigners.

144 out of the active cases are hospitalized for treatment while 1,427 are receiving treatment at isolation facilities.

With the virus having begun spreading in outlying islands, there are active cases in 13 resorts as well. This includes eight tourists and 13 staff members.
