Leader of the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and former President, Mohamed Nasheed has proposed to remove MP Rozaina Adam from the party.
Nasheed, who is also the current parliament speaker, made the proposition in an official chat group of the People’s Majlis.
Some members of the ruling party have confirmed this to RaajjeMV.
Nasheed’s decision comes after differences of opinion between the two, which was evident through social media.
One of the biggest issues between the Nasheed and Rozaina is the former’s decision to initiate an impeachment petition against Economic Minister, Fayyaz Ismail.
The Addu-Meedhoo constituency MP has been vocal against Nasheed’s stance on the matter, and continues to defend Fayyaz by saying that she has full confidence in the minister.
Fayyaz is also a member of the main ruling party.
Rozaina became a member of MDP in November 2013. She had previously served as the deputy leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP).
