Man stabbed during robbery in Maldives capital

A man has been stabbed during a robbery in Maldives capital, Malé City, where a hefty sum of money was stolen.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they received the report of the assailants attacking an individual near a mosque in Ameenee Magu at around 10:34pm on Thursday. Police have identified the assailants to have been on two motorcycles.

The victim in the mugging was taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to seek treatment for stab wounds after being attacked with a sharp object.

Police officers were dispatched to the area on Thursday night. MPS has since launched further investigations into the case.

Despite the country being locked in a battle against the global Covid-19 pandemic, cases of theft and robbery are being reported, with 189 such cases having been reported thus far this year.
