Opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has been fined MVR 50,000 for audit failures.

Elections Commission (EC) confirmed this via Twitter on Thursday, adding that the party was fined for failing to maintain financial statements as per the the Political Parties Act.

PPM was fined MVR 50,000 in accordance with Article 44 (b) of the Act, which states that the fine must be paid to the Elections Commission within eight months.

EC had previously warned the former ruling party over continued unlawful acts, including similar issues with its audit reports from 2013 and 2018. It has also imposed an additional MVR 10,000 fine on former chief of staff of Mulee-aage, Ahmed Musthafa, who had served as party’s treasurer at the time.
