President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended felicitations to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa for the ruling party’s landslide victory in the recent parliamentary elections.
In a Twitter post, the president congratulated PM Rajapaksa and Sri Lanka’s ruling party, The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna on a resounding victory in the neighboring country’s parliamentary elections held on Thursday.
Solih went on to express confidence that this victory will “usher in greater prosperity” for the Sri Lankan people and foster “even closer ties” between Maldives and Sri Lanka.
In addition, the Vice President, Faisal Naseem also extended warmest congratulations on Rajapaksa and party’s magnificent electoral victory, stating that the government looks forward to working closely with Rajapaksa.
VP Naseem wished Sri Lanka greater success under Rajapaksa’s leadership.
Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Mohamed Nasheed also extended felicitations to Rajapaksa, as well as President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for the decisive victory.
The speaker extended best wishes to the Sri Lankan people.
Nasheed highlighted that the Sri Lankan people have once again, peacefully exercised their democratic right to vote.
International media reports that The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna won 145 seats out of the 225-seat parliament which was just five seats short of a majority which would have allowed constitutional changes without the support from “smaller allied parties”.
