Three locals have been arrested in drug operations conducted in two regions of the Maldives.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that two individuals in possession of drugs, were arrested during an operation conducted by the Haa Dhaal Nolhivaranfaru Police Station and the Police Intelligence Unit officers on July 25.

Arrested were two Maldivian men, aged 24 and 31.

The two arrests were made from the harbor region in the island and the men were carrying a box containing a big rubber packet filled with suspected narcotics.

The two men have since been remanded by 10 days, by the Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court, at a facility decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The case is under further investigation by the Nolhivaranfaru Police Station

Another individual, a 44-year-old Maldivian man was arrested during an operation conducted by the Raa Maduvvari Police Station and Police Intel officers on July 26, following a tip off.

The man was arrested near the harbor region of the island and officers confiscated a big rubber packet filled with suspected narcotics.

Maduvvari Police Station is currently looking into the case.

The operations were conducted as part of the drug operations being conducted by authorities to curb drug smuggling and trafficking cases across the island nation.
