Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has filed a case of sexual harassment by a party member, Ahmed Fazeel, to the relevant authorities.
In a Twitter post the party revealed that they have filed the case at the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services and the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
Earlier, the party had revealed that Fazeel has been secluded from all activities of the party due to the allegations pinned on him.
MRM had assured the public that they are fully cooperating with relevant authorities to take the required action, highlighting that offenses of sexual assault and harassment are unacceptable.
Earlier this week, the Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hood revealed that Fazeel, who serves as the Communication Director at the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture is supended from work following the “serious allegations” of sexual harassment, against him.
Hood added that investigations into the matter, are proceeding.
Fazeel’s suspension comes at a time several senior officials of the government have come under fire following the surfacing of recent sexual harassment cases.
As such, Ali Waheed was sacked from his post as the Minister of Tourism, earlier this month after he failed to send in his resignation, as per the president’s orders.
Waheed was fired due to inappropriate behavior towards his employees, at the work place. A number of female employees at the ministry accused the former minister of sexual abuse, through resort trips of the ministry.
