Another employee at the People’s Majlis has tested positive for coronavirus.
According to the parliamentary administration, they were informed of an additional staff member testing positive for the virus, on Sunday morning.
Hence, contact tracing is underway, as well as work to disinfect the parliamentary building.
This is the third Covid-19 case confirmed from the People’s Majlis.
A total of 140 people are employed at the parliament.
While Maldives has confirmed a total of 2,930 Covid-19 cases thus far, the first cases were discovered from a resort on March 7. A community transmission was detected and a lockdown was announced in the greater Malé region on April 15. Parliament sittings were being held online even prior to the lockdown, from March 30.
However, sittings resumed at the parliamentary building in late May.
The country is currently in phase three of the lockdown ease plan.
