On August 27 last year, the project was contracted to MTCC for a value of MVR 99.98 million

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed 66 percent of the land reclamation and shore protection project in Maafushi island of Kaafu atoll.

Taking to Twitter to reveal the progression of the project, the company revealed that the rock boulders needed for shore protection component of the land reclamation and shore protection project in Maafushi island, have been delivered to the project site.

Further, MTCC also completed the reclamation of 25 hectares of land needed for the project, on June 14.

MTCC is also tasked with installing a revetment measuring a total of 1,110 meters under the scope of the project.

The project design is based bringing a solution to the high demand of residential plots on the island, revealed the contractor.

On August 27 last year, the project was contracted to MTCC for a value of MVR 99.98 million.

Maafushi is one of the islands where the guesthouse business has been thriving and is a popular island for local tourism. However, island residents have been facing the issue of land scarcity as well as congestion. It was one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledges during the presidential elections of 2018, to resolve this issue.
