Nominations have been opened for the 2020 National Awards.

The National Awards Committee opened nominations in an announcement publicized on Sunday.

The decision to open nominations for the awards, was reached by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih after consultations with the Cabinet of Ministers during the past week.

The President’s Office revealed that this year’s National Awards of Honor are to be presented during the celebrations commemorating National Day.

The National Awards of Honor and other special achievement awards are presented at ceremonies commemorating important national events such as the Republic Day and the National Day of the Maldives.

However, the government is expected to reschedule National Day and Republic Day celebrations this year and make alternative arrangements to present the awards to their recipients, due to the ever-changing situation revolving around the global Covid-19 pandemic, which surfaced in the Maldives on March 7.

The National Awards 2020 will be presented in 33 categories determined and amended after discussions with a wide range of government offices and relevant institutions.

Just like previous years, government offices, independent institutions, companies, associations, and individuals may propose nominations by submitting the designated application forms through official platforms.

Parties are urged to submit completed applications, addressed to the National Awards Committee, to the President’s Office.

Forms will be accepted between August 4 – 13 from 8am to 2pm.

Forms have been made available at the front desk of the President’s Office during official working hours and can also be downloaded through theirwebsite.

Members of the press will be given the chance to participate in information sessions regarding the National Awards 2020, to be conducted by the National Awards Committee.
