President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ordered the tourism minister to resign from post.
Chief Communications Strategist, Ibrahim Hood confirmed this via Twitter.
Hood said that this was following complaints regarding ‘unacceptable work environment’ at the tourism ministry.
Employees at the ministry are to have submitted complaints to the president, as well as the gender ministry.
Hood did not disclose any further details, including the nature of the complaints.
While Minister Ali Waheed has been busy with work to restart the country’s tourism industry following the standstill due to the Covid-19 pandemic, audio recordings where he was making inappropriate comments regarding a female cabinet minister were leaked online back in February.
