The People’s Majlis has accepted a resolution seeking to establish a foster care centre in the country.

68 lawmakers voted in favour of the resolution submitted by South-Mahchangoalhi constituency MP Ahmed Haitham, at Wednesday’s sitting. It was forwarded to the committee on human rights and gender, for further review.

Presenting the resolution at sitting, MP Haitham said that its purpose is to strengthen measure to protect children, as well as to increase the expenses related to the protection of children’s’ rights.

The resolution also calls to increase resources required for this work, as well as experts in the field.

Furthermore, it calls on authorities to strengthen measures for child victims, as well as to ensure that action is taken against those that hurt and take advantage of children.

Noting the importance of establishing a foster care centre, Haitham’s resolution also called to establish administrational procedures as well as to train social workers.
