Two individuals have been injured in a fire incident onboard a speedboat.

Media official at the Maldives Police Service (MPS) told RaajjeMV that "Maalifushi 2" was en route from Maalifushi Resort to capital Malé City when a fire broke out, with six onboard.

Police received the report some time on Wednesday morning and revealed that the boat caught fire while on the way to dock at Guraidhoo island in Kaafu atoll.

Out of the six onboard, a Maldivian woman and a Sri Lankan national attained injuries.

As they are receiving treatment at the resort, authorities have also revealed that they are working to transfer them to the capital for further treatment.

RaajjeMV was unable to get a comment from the resort management at the time of publishing.

While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, police have launched investigations into the case.
