FM Shahid urges UN member states to enhance multilateral cooperation to address global challenges

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has called on all member states of the United Nations to strengthen multilateral cooperation to address global problems and challenges such as climate change, sustainable development and natural disasters.
The statement was made in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Charter.
As such, FM Shahid made the statement through a video message, highlighting the principles and ideals of the UN Charter that gave voice and purpose to all nations on the basis of equality.
The foreign minister reaffirmed the island nation’s commitment to work with all nations in order to promote the shared ideals for peace, economic progress and social justice.
The UN Charter was signed in San Francisco, USA on June 26, 1945 upon the conclusion of the UN Conference on International Organization.
It came into effect on October 24, 1945 and calls for the UN to maintain international peace and security; promote social progress and better standards of life; strengthen international law; and promote human rights.
