Maldives receives third shipment of supplies for Covid-19 response, from China
The donation includes essential personal protective materials
The continuous support from China during this challenging time is a testimony to the strengthened bilateral relations, said FM Shahid
China has been a major contributor in Maldives’ Covid-19 response efforts

Maldives has received the third shipment of medical preventive materials needed for Covid-19 response efforts donated by China.

The shipment arrived on Wednesday and it was provided to support the Maldives’ government in its efforts to curb the spread of the global pandemic.

Items included in the shipment are essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), protective face masks, surgical masks, disposable coverall and medical goggles.

The donation includes:

  • 5,000 medical protective face masks
  • 50,000 surgical masks
  • 5,000 disposable coveralls
  • 5,000 medical goggles

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid noted that the continuous support from the Chinese government during this challenging time is a testimony to the strengthened bilateral relations between both countries.

This timely donation is expected to enhance the capacity of the frontline workers in the Covid-19 relief efforts.

The government of Maldives has also expressed gratitude to the people and government of China for the goodwill extended to the Maldives during such trying times.

Since the coronavirus outbreak in the Maldives, China has remained a resilient contributor to the Maldives response efforts, having donated medical supplies and equipment and assistance in constructing an accommodation block for foreigners in the Maldives.
