Expats in Addu urged to register if they wish to return home

Addu City Council has opened opportunity for the expatriate community living in the city to register if they wish to return home.
The council revealed that there are several Bangladeshi nationals residing in the city, who wish to return home.
These individuals have been sought to register before 8pm, May 25 at the social support desks stationed in their respective districts of the city.
Further, the owners or companies that have brought these migrant workers may also register for them, at the social support desks.
The opportunity is also offered to undocumented Bangladeshi workers residing in the southernmost city.
This comes at a time a number of Bangladeshi nationals have been testing positive for the global pandemic, Covid-19 in the Maldives, after the discovery of a community transmission in Maldives capital Malé City on April 15.
Authorities have begun an operation to transfer them into better housing quarters temporarily as they are forced to live in confined spaces in large groups and their lifestyles make them more vulnerable to contracting the virus.
Further, the government has also facilitated the repatriation of Bangladeshi communities residing in the Maldives. There are over 100,000 undocumented migrant workers in the country.
