The number of Covid-19 cases in the Maldives has been spiking since the detection of a community transmission

Maldives has confirmed 27 additional Covid-19 cases on Monday.

A majority of the cases reported on Monday were Bangladeshi nationals and with these new cases, the country’s Covid-19 case count has reached 862.

This was revealed by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) via Twitter, which reads that the new cases include 18 Bangladeshi nationals and nine Maldivians.

While further details have not been disclosed, authorities are yet to confirm any links of the new cases to existing Covid-19 cases.

Since the community transmission was discovered in the Maldives capital, Covid-19 cases have been rising and authorities are conducting contact tracing extensively.
