The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has asserted that Covid-19 task forces stationed in outlying islands must investigate and take action against individuals placed in quarantine facilities, if they pose a risk to the society.

Speaking to press on Monday night, the task force’s spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz revealed that if the task forces stationed in outlying atolls receive reports of quarantined individuals violating their quarantine order and going outside, action must be taken against them accordingly.

As such, task forces have the authority to monitor and look into such issues and take action if those in quarantine pose a societal risk.

Highlighting that home-quarantine is also required, Mabrook added that taking everyone into a separate region or quarantine facility is not the procedure other countries follow either. In this regard, there are several things authorities must monitor when placing an individual in home-quarantine.

Under the current protocol, individuals returning to islands from the locked down capital, Malé City will also be subject to the 14-day quarantine period. Further, the government will also make arrangements to isolate these individuals should they exhibit symptoms and test positive for the virus.

NEOC earlier stressed that individuals may require to go into home-quarantine if positive cases continue to surge and their contacts are identified in masses. The people have been urged by the government to be prepared for such a situation.
