Chinese Ambassador to Maldives, Zhang Lizhong has stated that a flight carrying a consignment of emergency supplies for Maldives is currently on its way.

The ambassador made the reveal via Twitter on Saturday, writing that the embassy has stepped in to coordinate ever since an announcement was made by Jack Ma, founder of renowned business chain Alibaba to donate emergency medical supplies.

As such, six more enterprises including the local government of Guangxi as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China have joined the donation.

He wrote that “special time requires extra effort” and that “good things need patience”.

Jack Ma’s tweet reads that a consignment of 1.8 million face masks, 210,000 testing kits, 36,000 protective suits as well as ventilators and thermometers will be delivered to Maldives as well as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Although delivering “is not easy” Jack Ma noted that they will get it done.

China is one of the many countries that has been extending assistance in the Maldivian government’s efforts to contain and control the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

As such, the Chinese government has also begun work to establish two quarantine facilities with a capacity of 1,100 individuals.
