Maldives has the capacity to meet the oxygen needs of Covid-19 patients, says Covid-19 spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz.
Speaking during the press briefing on Friday night, the spokesperson revealed that the government has brought in more oxygen supply in order to increase the country’s oxygen capacity.
There is enough oxygen supply for an abrupt surge in cases, said Mabrook.
He added that a national requirement list has been compiled to bring in all the equipment and supply needed for the health sector, this includes ventilators.
At a time the Covid-19 pandemic is sweeping across the globe swiftly, there are hospitals that do have been negligent in checking if they have the required amount of oxygen supply for its treatment.
Covid-19 attacks the respiratory system directly and health experts have revealed that oxygen supply is vital for Covid-19 patients.
Maldives currently uses oxygen cylinders and the four hospitals currently providing treatment for Covid-19 patients, Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), ADK Hospital, Tree Top Hospital as well as Dharumavantha Hospital use oxygen production machines.
