The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has revealed that the government has received 5,000 additional testing kits for Covid-19.

This was revealed during Thursday night’s press briefing by Covid-19 spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz.

As such, Mabrook revealed that the testing kits have now been taken to the laboratory at the state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Further, authorities have also begun using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing machine stationed at the Maldives Police Service (MPS) Intelligence Unit to test those who exhibit symptoms to the disease.

Authorities began using the machine on Thursday night, this will ensure 50 more tests are conducted on a daily basis.

Further, when the operation of the machine begins improving, the testing procedure will be enhanced even further, said Mabrook.

On Thursday, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Maldives crossed 100, with the number of cases unfolding in the Maldives capital, spiraling since the first community spread was discovered on 15 April.
