The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has predicted adverse weather conditions across most of the country over the next 24 hours.

MET office revealed that all other regions except for the southern-most atolls are expected to experience squally showers.

Heavy showers are expected to prevails over the southern-most atolls during Wednesday.

Winds are expected to gust 35 – 40 miles per hour and strong gusts are expected with choppy seas throughout most parts.

The department went on to reveal that the south-west monsoon is upon us and that heavy rain showers with thunderstorms will prevail throughout this season.

The country experiences adverse weather conditions during this period each year, when the south-west monsoon commences during May.

Overall, winds will vary between east to southeasterly at 5 – 15 miles per hours and winds will gust to 30 miles per hour during showers, said the department.
