The Policy Task Force established by the Maldivian government in connection to the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, has held an online meeting.

This was revealed via a Twitter post by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid who attended the meeting alongside several others on Wednesday night.

As such, the meeting focused on discussions on the current situation of a potential community spread of the outbreak.

The meeting was chaired by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

While the Greater Malé Region is under a 24-hour lockdown since Wednesday afternoon, FM Shahid noted that the government is taking all the necessary precautions.

He went on to urge the community to follow advice from the relevant authorities and carefully adhere to regulations set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in order to ensure a community spread is not observed.

Addressing the nation following the emergence of the first community-transmitted case in the Maldives capital on Wednesday, Solih urged the people to remain patient and cooperate with the government in its efforts to curb the spread of the disease.

During his tearful speech, the president urged the public to stay home as the biggest preventive measure is doing so, as a vaccine is yet to be discovered for the pandemic.
