The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has warned caution against a runaway barge, for all sea travelers in “Alihuras Kandu”, which is the channel between Vaavu and Meemu atolls.
The authority made the reveal via Twitter on Friday, adding that the barge set out from the channel south-ward of Giraavaru Island in Kaafu atoll and is currently headed south-west.
Further, MNDF cited the owner of the barge revealing to the coastguard that the barge is vacant the lights were also turned off.
The barge measures about 100 feet in length, said the authority.
In addition, the authority has urged travelers in the region to cautious of the runaway barge, especially those traveling in the region at night time.
