Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has wished a speedy recovery to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The British PM was placed in the intensive care unit on Monday evening after contracting coronavirus.

In his message, President Solih extended well wishes on behalf of the government and the people of Maldives on Monday.

The Maldives president expressed his deep concern for PM Johnson and wished him a speedy recovery, expressing his hope that the global efforts against the pandemic will be successful, both individual and collective.

He went on to emphasize the unwavering ties of friendship between Maldives and the United Kingdom.

While PM Johnson tested positive for Covid-19 a few days ago, he was moved into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Monday after his symptoms began worsening.

International media reports that the British PM is receiving excellent care, he was given oxygen before his condition worsened and had to be taken into intensive care on Monday.

Since the pandemic emerged in the country, UK’s death toll has surpassed 5,000, with over 51,000 being infected and less than 200 recoveries.
