Moomina Abdul Gayoom, sister of former Presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Abdulla Yameen, has passed away at the age of 81.

She passed away on Monday morning.

Moomina was known for her commendable services in Dhivehi Language and History, her public service career began from the post of a teacher at Ameer Ahmed School and Aminiya School, she had served in public service for over 22 years.

Moomina served as an assistant at Galolhu District Office and Assistant Director at the National Council of Dhivehi Language and History as well.

Her burial rites will be carried out after Asr prayer on Monday at Aa’sahara and information has it that the incarcerated former president, Yameen will be allowed to attend her burial as requested. As such, the Commissioner of Prisons, Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu revealed that they are currently making arrangements for the former president to attend his sister’s burial.
