Covid-19: total recoveries in the Maldives reach eight
The announcement was made via a press conference on Wednesday evening
These three patients were isolated at Velidhu Isolation Facility in Alif Alif atoll
All eight are required to undergo a 30-day isolation period before release

The total number of patients who recovered from the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the Maldives has reached eight, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed.

The president made the announcement at a press conference held on Wednesday, where he provided the latest information regarding the Covid-19 situation in the Maldives.

As such, the president stated that three more patients who earlier tested positive to the virus have since tested negative, two times round.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that the three patients were isolated at Velidhu Isolation Facility in Alif Alif atoll, and will be required to undergo an isolation period of 30 days before they can be released.

The first two patients recovered after treatment at Dharumavantha Hospital, one of them, a 70-year-old, was treated for severe pneumonia at the Intensive Care Unit as well.

A day later on Saturday one more recovery was reported followed by two more on Monday.

Five of the recovered patients are three Italian patients and one each from Turkey and South Africa.

Up until Monday there have been 13 confirmed cases of the virus in the Maldives, all foreigners and from resorts; five from Kuredu Island Resort where the first two cases emerged and two each from Sandies Bathala, Anantara Dhigu and Island Safari 1.

As of Wednesday, there are five patients under monitoring after recovery.
