Following the public holiday declared to curb the spread of Covid-19, the Ministry of Education has suspended the recently launched "Teleclass" programme.
According to a press statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Education stated that the Teleclass programme will be temporarily suspended during the public holiday effective of March 19th.
The statement further goes onto suggest recommendations for parents during the public holiday, ranging from including children in household work to reducing screentime and encouraging children to read.
On Tuesday, the Maldives’ Cabinet determined to temporarily close down all government offices for a period of one week from March 19th up until March 26th as a preventive measure against the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
Schools were originally set to re-open after the mid-term holidays on March 15th. This was delayed to March 22nd but was postponed further by an additional week following instructions from the Health Protection Agency (HPA). Schools will now re-open on March 29th.
Teachers were initially instructed to work throughout the week to prepare materials and scheme of work for the Teleclass programme.
The teleclass programme, broadcast via Public Service Media (PSM)'s YesTV, was targeted towards students studying in Grades 10 and 11.
