Majilis Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Minister of Environment Dr Hussain Rasheed Hassan has held discussions on the country's climate diplomacy strategy.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid announced the discussions with Speaker Nasheed and Environment Minister Dr Hussain via Twitter on Monday, adding that the country's climate diplomacy strategy is one of the key priorities of President Solih's administration. He further revealed that the discussions also featured targets for the 2020 United Nations Climate Change Conference, better known as COP26.

While the three senior government officials held discussions regarding COP26 today, Environment Minister Dr Hussain spoke at COP25 last year, appealing for foreign assistance in tackling the effects of climate change.

His speech also addressed the necessary actions required to minimise the effects of climate change, especially on small island nations, while appealing for the international community to reduce the amount of poisonous gases released into the atmosphere.

The 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is scheduled to be held in Glasgow, the United Kingdom from 9th -19th November 2020.
