Another case involving sexual assault against a minor has emerged from a south-central atoll of the Maldives.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) arrested an 80-year-old on Sunday, in connection to a report received on 11 January by their south-central division.
While the elder was arrested under a court order, he is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
Police further revealed that the case is undergoing further investigations.
For the safety of the child, police did not reveal her name and where she is from.
This comes at a time the disturbing story of a two-year-old who was sexually assaulted by her grandfather and great grandfather came into the spotlight this past weekend. Since then, police assured the public that they take such matters as “serious crimes”.
