Two men have been captured while attempting to enter Maldives using counterfeit resident cards.

Maldives Immigration’s border security made the reveal via Twitter, stating that two men were caught attempting to enter Maldives through Velana International Airport (VIA) on Monday.

Immigration officers have since brought the 21-year-old and the 29-year-old into custody.

While a 31-year-old was deported on 15 December for attempting to enter Maldives using a counterfeit passport, the department revealed that there is “no way” to enter the country using a counterfeit passport and that there are strict laws set for such matters.

In the past year, 12 individuals were apprehended for attempting to enter the country using counterfeit passports.
