Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that the party will be accepting submissions to contest in the party’s primaries for the upcoming Local Council Elections, on Friday as well.

While submissions were officially opened on 30 December, applications will be accepted through the first floor of MDP’s secretariat from 2pm – 6pm on Friday, revealed the party.

An announcement issued by the party on Monday revealed that they began accepting applications from those interested to contest through the party ticket for the elections.

The announcement instructs interested candidates to list the council they are interested to contest in on the application form, fill in the required information and submit it along with the required documents to the party’s secretariat before 4pm on 10 January.

Further, only members registered at the party before 2pm on 31 December 2019 will be allowed to contest or cast their ballots in the party primaries, revealed MDP, who went on to reveal that the voter's list for the primaries will be publicized on 6 January and the final list of candidates will be revealed on 13 January with a three-day period to submit complaints.

The final voters’ list will be publicized on 15 January.

The application form has been made available through MDP’swebsiteand through the party's secretariat office.

While the Local Council Election 2020 is slated for 4 April, campaigns have been launched nationwide.
