The government of Maldives has taken up a workshop to enhance partnership with the Blue Prosperity Coalition

While the government and the coalition are currently leading a workshop to hold deliberations on the best methods to implement the provision of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two parties during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s visit to New York, America to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in September, the discussions are being held at the President’s Office.

The MoU in question links the two parties to devise a long-term program to protect and preserve the maritime environment and resources of the Maldives, leading to the ensurance of complete harmony for marine life, during future development projects.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, and 15 December, a Sunday.

The workshop will include national stakeholders from whom input will be taken to realize the most effective ways to implement the MoU’s aims.

Some of them include enhancing Maritime Spatial Planning, conducting joint maritime scientific research, establishing better mechanisms for maritime governance and ocean resource preservation as well as entitling certain regions of the ocean as protected areas.

Stakeholders taking part include Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, Ministry of Planning, Marine Research Institute, Local Government Authority and Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Waitt Institute, Partnership Organization, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Pristine Seas and Nekton.

Their input will be compiled into a work-plan that will define the steps relevant to accomplish the set of goals in the MoU.

Blue Prosperity Foundation is a global network of ocean exports who work to advance ocean protection and enhance blue economies.

Partnering with the coalition is expected to accelerate Maldives ongoing efforts to preserve its ocean well-being and also ensures a prosperous oceanic environment.
