Rilwan’s murder: commission yet to receive forensic analysis report
2 draft reports have been presented

Head of the Presidential Commission on Murders and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom), Husnu Al Suood, has stated that the final report on the inquiry into the abduction and murder of the journalist, Ahmed Rilwan, has been completed but the commission is waiting on the forensic analysis report before publishing the final document.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Suood revealed that the final inquiry report on Rilwan's case is complete and will be forwarded to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih very soon.

While the Commission on Murders and Enforced Disappearances was formed to fulfill President Solih's electoral pledge to find the truth behind murders and disappearances, the president has, in the past, highlighted the fact that the commission has only presented two draft reports so far, and that both draft reports had conflicting pieces of information.

As such, President Solih has also revealed that a meeting was held on September 8, with the relevant authorities to discuss the best course of action and that he pushed for the final draft of the report to be completed as soon as possible.

As three months have passed since then, RaajjeMV contacted the president's office for an update on the situation and was told by the president's official spokesperson, Ibrahim Hood, that the president's office is still yet to receive the final report.

When Suood was questioned regarding this, he responded attributing the delay to the time taken to complete a comprehensive forensic analysis report. Suood has faced difficulties in the past in acquiring information from a number of institutions for the investigation.

Rilwan was last seen in August 2014, and police confirmed his abduction two years later in 2016. The inquiry commission revealed that Rilwan was killed by an extremist group in September this year.

Husnu Suood had, in December last year, said that investigations showed links between the three murders of Dr.Afrasheem, Yameen Rasheed and Ahmed Rilwan.

Suood has also disclosed that the extremist group consists of an eight people "cell". Furthermore, he stated that a number of local businesses and retail shops have been found to fund terrorist activities.

Suood told RaajjeMV on Wednesday, that the final report will disclose the businesses funding terrorism in the Maldives, and that swift action will be taken against them.

Husnu Suood claims that evidence shows Rilwan was abducted, taken to the open sea on a dinghy boat and killed. Passports of 15 individuals have been withheld upon the request of the commission for its investigation.
