MP for Naifaru constituency, Ahmed Shiyam, has been accused of trading oil stolen from Fuel Supplies Maldives Pvt Ltd (FSM) on the black market by MP for Dhaandhoo constituency, Yaugoob Abdulla.

Yaugoob made the accusation in response to a question posed by Shiyam's on the parliament floor, asking when the government plans to address the real issues at Naifaru.

In response, Yaugoob claimed that Naifaru would have seen progress by now if Shiyam had not depleted the state budget by trading oil stolen from Fuel Supplies Maldives Pvt Ltd (FSM) during his time in office in the previous administration.

More progressive projects could have been carried out during the 18th parliament's tenure, especially in 2018 if the MP for Naifaru constituency, had not used up the state budget by stealing oil from FSM for illegal trade

Ahmed Shiyam was the MP for Naifaru constituency in the 18th parliament and was re-elected for the 19th parliament.

Yaugoob further stated that the Maldives Democratic Party fulfills its promises and that there will be no island without funding or development projects by the end of next year.

He also stated that Naifaru will see development projects at a rate never before seen from previous administrations.

Shiyam has since publicly denied the allegations stating that he has never participated in oil trade in any capacity.

While speaking to RaajjeMV, Shiyam claimed that Yaugoob's allegations had political purposes and are completely false. He stated that he has never had any vested interest in the oil trade.

I have no vested interest in any company. A company such as FSM would have detailed records

According to Shiyam, these allegations were made because he belongs to the government's opposition. He has also called for the Speaker of Parliament to summon senior officials from FSM to clear up the accusations.
