MP for Kinbidhoo constituency Mohamed Nashiz has been elected to Chair the Budget Committee, formed to review and evaluate the proposed state budget for the upcoming year.
While Alifushi constituency MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain was elected as Vice Chair Member, Hanimaadhoo constituency MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa had nominated both the Chair and Vice Chair for the committee during a meeting held on Tuesday night.
The nomination to elect MP Nashiz as chair was backed by North-Kulhudhuffushi MP Yasir Abdul Latheef and 18 members present at the meeting had voted in favor of electing Nashiz.
MP Nashiz backed the nomination of MP Rasheed as Vice Chair and he was elected with the majority of votes from the members present.
During the meeting, members passed the proposed guidelines as it was and also to summon the Auditor General and officials of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) for recommendations.
Nashiz revealed that work is underway to complete the evaluation by 20 November as it is required to be sent to the parliament floor within seven days.
Minister of Finance, Ibrahim Ameer submitted the proposed state budget for the year 2020 to the parliament floor on Monday. It was forwarded for committee review the same day.
The budget has been set at MVR 37.5 billion with an expenditure of MVR 35.6 billion.
