Police's media officer has confirmed this

Former President Abdulla Yameen has been summoned to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for questioning regarding the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.

Police media official Izmia Zahir confirmed that a summon chit has been issued.

While she did not specify a time for the summon, reports indicate that he is to present himself at 2pm on Monday.

The former president is currently under trial, for laundering money through MMPRC, with a verdict to be issued on Tuesday.

Yameen is accused of laundering USD one million through MMPRC via a private company, Scores of Flair (SoF), during his five-year term which ended last November.

If found guilty of the charges, which he denies, Yameen could face a jail sentence between five to 15 years.

Further accusations against him include using funds for financial gain despite being ordered to transfer it to an escrow account under an agreement with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
