FM Shahid holds fruitful discussions with three envoys
The ministry is committed to revive the existing bilateral relations with all three countries
Röhsler committed to work in collective cooperation with the government of Maldives in order to further the existing ties

Ambassadors of three countries have paid courtesy calls on Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid.

The meetings were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday.

Meeting with UK's first ever resident envoy to Maldives

UK's new Ambassador to the Maldives, Caron Rohsler called on Shahid after presenting her credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Shahid expressed hope that the bilateral relations and cooperation between Maldives and UK will reach new heights during Rohsler’s tenure.

Discussions also focused on the progress of the existing collaboration efforts especially on counter terrorism, environment and climate change as well as aviation security.

Further, the first-ever resident ambassador from UK to the Maldives reassured Shahid of her commitment to work in collective cooperation with the government of Maldives in order to further the existing ties.

She went on to shed light on her plans to deepen cooperation on avenues of mutual interest.

The meeting with Ambassador Rohsler was joined by Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed and Director Shiuneen Rasheed.

New Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Maldives

The minister's meeting with Sri Lankan Ambassador Kohono Walawe focused on ways to strengthen the existing close relations shared between Maldives and Sri Lanka

Ambassador Walawe presented his credentials to the president on Wednesday as well.

Shahid gave the ambassador his assurance that the ministry is committed to revive the existing bilateral relations between both countries.

The foreign minister was accompanied by Additional Secretary Shiruzimath Sameer and Senior Desk Officer Shafagath Shafeeg.

43 years of diplomatic relations with Cuba

The last meeting saw discussions on multilateral relations between Maldives and Cuba, with Ambassador of Cuba to Maldives Juana Elena Ramos Rodriguez.

Further, both the minister and ambassador had explored ways through which the cooperation between both countries may be expanded, particularly through health and sports.

Taking to twitter following the meeting, Shahid expressed his keenness to strengthen ties with Cuba, with whom Maldives has enjoyed 43 years of diplomatic relations.

Shahid was accompanied by Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed and Assistant Director Mohamed Shaffau Ibrahim.
