A Maldives National Defence Officer (MNDF) has died during a training at the Girifushi Training Center.
Staff Sergeant Ali Riyaz, from MNDF’s Marine Deployment Unit 2, died on Saturday morning.
MNDF said that Sergeant Riyaz had taken part in a Boundary Functional Test (BFT) in Hulhumalé on Saturday morning, and had told a trainee of gastric issues after returning to Girifushi.
He is to have collapsed shortly after.
Riyaz was immediately transferred to ADK Hospital in the capital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sergeant Riyaz is the second officer to have died while in training this year; Captain Mohamed Ramiz died while training in Lh.Maafilaafushi in January.
