President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he will meet with the government coalition leaders next month.

The government coalition consists of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP), Adhaalath Party, and Maldives Reform Movement (MRM).

The President had skipped the last meeting of the coalition leaders, held in December. President Solih has said that there was no reason to hold a meeting afterwards since the coalition parties were preparing for the parliamentary election separately. No coalition meeting has been held since MDP won supermajority in the parliamentary election.

Speaking at the press conference on Thursday, President Solih said that they have failed to hold a meeting since the party leaders have been overseas at various times and that they will be preparing for next month’s meeting early to schedule it at a time when all the leaders are in Male’.

He said that the coalition leaders will discuss the upcoming local council elections at the next meeting and that there was no reason to believe that the coalition will be dissolved during his term.
