Criminal Court cancels hearings over termite infestation

The court will still be issuing remands at the Justice Building

Criminal Court has cancelled its hearings on Sunday over a termite infestation.

Department of Judicial Administration (DJA)’s media official Faisal Adam told RaajjeMV that they are currently working to exterminate the termites.

He said that, while the Criminal Court hearings have been closed on Sunday, they will still be issuing remands at the Justice Building.

While the termite infestation has worsened at the building, Judicial Service Commission (JSC)’s report has highlighted the immense backlog of unfinished work at the Criminal Court.

JSC stated that there are 12 cases that are more than 10 years old and recommended that more judges be transferred to the Criminal Court to speed up its work.
