Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has expressed confidence that Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to the Maldives will bring the two countries closer.

During a courtesy call paid on the PM by FM Shahid at Kurumba Maldives on Monday, he stated that PM Wickremesinghe’s visit will further enhance the close cooperation shared between Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Both leaders went on to discuss several matters of mutual interest including the significance in forging people-to-people contact between Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Further, FM Shahid shed light on the important contribution the neighboring country has made to the socio-economic growth of Maldives.

He went on to state that there has been close cooperation in sectors such as defense and education, as well as the regional and international fora.

FM Shahid was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, Joint Secretary at the ministry Fathmath Ghina and Ambassador of the Maldives to Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razzaq.
