Marine Research Centre renamed to Maldives Marine Research Institute
President Solih made the changes to be effective from 29 August
The institute is mandated with research work and providing expert opinion on developing the agriculture sector

The Marine Research Center has been renamed to Maldives Marine Research Institute by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The President made the amendment, effective from 29 August onwards and also updated the institute’s mandate.

The institute will be tasked with researching and collecting scientific data as well as specimens linked to marine life and is also required to protect sea life, it’s species that face the threat of extinction and ensure fishing mechanisms are ones that protect the marine life.

It is also required to establish eco-system-based management in the country, said the President’s Office.

Further, the institute is also mandated to provide expert opinion on developing the agriculture sector in the country.

Maldives Marine Research Institute is also to provide information and collaborate with international scientific associations.
