Deadline to apply for Supreme Court seat extended

The seat became vacant after the dismissal of Justice Abdulla Didi over corruption

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has extended the deadline to send in applications for the vacant seat in the Supreme Court.

JSC extended the deadline to Thursday, 12pm.

The seat became vacant after the dismissal of Justice Abdulla Didi over corruption.

Article 148(a) of the Constitution states that the President will appoint the Supreme Court justice, after consulting the JSC and the confirmation of the appointees by a majority of parliament members.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also consulted JSC on his nominations for the two new seats in the Supreme Court, created after he ratified the 3rd amendment to the Judicature Act, allowing the increase of the number of justices from five to seven.
