Ali Hashim’s nomination for the post of governor at the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has been forwarded to the parliament committee on Public Accounts.
While President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s nomination has been forwarded to the parliament committee for further evaluation, he was nominated and his name was forwarded for parliament approval on Wednesday.
Previously having served as Minister of Finance, Hashim held his ministerial position from 2008 to 2010 during MDP’s first rule.
The post of governor has been vacant since the resignation of Ahmed Naseer in July 2019, after being accused of influencing MMA’s Financial Intelligence Unit unduly.
While Naseer has denied the allegations having said that he is being framed by those involved in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement case, he asserts that MMA’s leadership is “still” filled with those who were involved in the case of graft.
